A Sound Interface to Algebra

Access to mathematics (and hence to most areas of science and technology) is barred to most visually disabled people. The complex, and often ambiguous, notation is diicult to retain and integrate in its spoken form. An interactive computer system, using synthetic speech, non-speech audio and new browsing strategies, aims to promote a more active reading of algebra notation.

Linear Algebra . A publication of the International Linear Algebra Society

Nonnegative nilpotent lower triangular completions of a nonnegative nilpotent matrix are studied. It is shown that for every natural number between the index of the matrix and its order, there exists a completion that has this number as its index. A similar result is obtained for the rank. However, unlike the case of complex completions of complex matrices, it is proved that for every nonincrea...

JaLA: a Java package for Linear Algebra

While the Java language has taken the world by storm, it has left the scienti c computing community out in the cold. Java lacks the capability for multi-dimensional arrays that can be implemented e ciently, and more importantly, lacks the ability to use data layouts that are compatible with the wide variety of scienti c subroutine packages available, such as the BLAS [3], ESSL [2], LAPACK [1], ...
